ที่ครอบหูลดเสียงและปลั๊กอุดหู
ที่ครอบหูลดเสียงและปลั๊กอุดหู (Ear Protection) เป็นอุปกรณ์ที่ใช้สำหรับป้องกันเสียงที่ดังเกินกว่าที่หูคนเราจะสามารถรับได้ คือมีระดับเสียงสูงเกินกว่า 85 เดซิเบล โดยหากระดับเสียงในขณะทำงานสูงเกินกว่า 130 เดซิเบล ถือว่าเป็นตรายต่อการได้ยินของหู ซึ่งอุปกรณ์ป้องกันหูที่สำคัญและเหมาะสมกับการใช้งาน ได้แก่
ปลั๊กอุดหูอุดหู หรือ Ear Plugs
- เป็นอุปกรณ์ลดเสียง ที่ใช้การสอดเข้าไปในรูหู เป็นชนิดที่นิยมใช้งานมากที่สุด เนื่องจากราคาต่อคู่ไม่แพง สะดวกต่อการพกพา และเนื่องจากมีขนาดเล็ก จึงทำให้ที่อุดหูสามารถใช้งานได้แม้ทำงานในพื้นที่แคบ สวมใส่สบาย ไม่ทำให้เกิดการอับชื้นบริเวณหูแม้ทำงานในพื้นที่ชื้น หรือร้อน ที่อุดหู มีข้อจำกัดในเรื่องที่อาจก่อให้เกิดการระคายเคืองได้ เนื่องจากต้องสอดเข้าไปในรูหู ใช้เวลานานในการใส่ หรือถอดออก และด้วยขนาดเล็ก อาจทำให้สูญหายได้ง่าย และสิ้นเปลือง สามารถแบ่งออกเป็น 2 ประเภทคือ ประเภทที่ต้องบีบก่อนใส่ และประเภทที่ใส่ได้เลย ที่อุดหูส่วนใหญ่สามารถลดเสียงได้ประมาณ 23-33 เดซิเบล
1. ที่อุดหูชนิดที่ต้องปั้นให้เป็นรูปก่อนใช้ (PREMOLD-EAR PLUG): โดยมากที่อุดหูประเภทนี้ มักจะทำด้วย Foam หรือฟองน้ำเทียม (SYNTHETIC SPONGE) สามารถลดระดับเสียงลงได้ประมาณ 24-29 เดซิเบล (เอ) ก่อนใช้ต้องปั้นให้เล็กที่สุดเพื่อที่จะเสียบเข้าไปในรูหู

ที่ครอบหู หรือ Ear Muffs
- เป็นอุปกรณ์ลดเสียงที่มีลักษณะเหมือนหูฟังแบบครอบหู สามารถปรับเลื่อนขนาดตามศีรษะของแต่ละคนได้ มีขนาดใหญ่ไม่ทำให้สูญหายง่าย ใส่และถอดสะดวก ตรวจสอบการใช้งานได้ง่ายกว่าแบบที่อุดหู เนื่องจากที่ครอบหูไม่ต้องสอดเข้าไปในหู ทำให้ไม่เสี่ยงต่อการติดเชื้อ ทนทานใช้งานได้นานกว่าที่อุดหู แต่ทั้งนี้ที่ครอบหูมีข้อจำกัดในเรื่องของน้ำหนักที่มากกว่าที่อุดหู ไม่สะดวกสบายหากต้องใช้งานในพื้นที่ชื้นและร้อน และด้วยขนาดใหญ่ ไม่เหมาะที่จะใช้ในพื้นที่ทำงานแคบๆ หากใช้ร่วมกับแว่นตานิรภัย อาจทำให้เกิดการกดทำบริเวณขาแว่น ทำให้ไม่สบายต่อผู้ใช้งาน สามารถแบ่งเป็น 2 ประเภทเช่นกัน คือ ที่อุดหูประเภทคาดศีรษะ และที่อุดหูแบบประกอบเข้ากับหมวกนิรภัย ที่ครอบหู ส่วนใหญ่สามารถลดความดังเสียงได้ประมาณ 22-30 เดซิเบล
